Starting with the Outside
Imagine looking at your home as
if you were a buyer, stand across the street and take a good look. Does your
home have curb appeal? Is the lawn cut and are the flowerbeds neat?
Consider adding a new doormat
to spruce up the entrance.
What about the windows, do they
need cleaning?
Buyers will most often look at
the sides of the house; make sure it is free of clutter and garbage.
If you have garden furniture consider
re-arranging it. Clean up around the BBQ area.
Put away all the gardening tools.
Move
to the Inside
The first impression is the most
important, make sure the home is clean, the lighting is great, and the home
has an inviting aroma.
Lighting is so important, make
sure that blinds are pulled back and that lots of natural light can enter
the home. Check all bulbs and make sure all switches are working.
Make sure the carpets are vacuumed,
and if they are particularly dirt consider having them steam cleaned.
Make sure the kitchen and bathrooms
are spotless and de-clutter.
Empty out all the garbage.
Strong smells such as smoke or
animals can deter buyers as some are allergic. Make sure that animal hair
isn’t visible on couches and febreze the surfaces where animals are
most common.
Create a warm environment; consider
leaving the bread maker on or lighting scented candles.
Play some soft music to compliment
the mood.
Remember to put away all valuables
from sight.
